A number of my constituents have contacted me regarding Royal Mail Customer Service Points Closures.
Since the pandemic Royal Mail has observed a 50 per cent drop in footfall to their 1,200 Customer Service Points. In November, this prompted a review of the viability of Customer Service Points and the consideration of alternative options. I am pleased to pass on that upon completion of the first stage of review, Royal Mail concluded to maintain the current estate of Customer Service Points. However, they are seeking to further improve their first-time delivery rates. Whilst the next stage of this review will focus on ensuring that Customer Service Point opening hours match customer demand, as footfall continues to decrease
Royal Mail also conducted trials of automatic next-day redeliveries, which have been approved and are set to be rolled out in the coming months. This will help customers in receiving their parcels at home, without the need to travel to a Customer Service Point. Royal Mail have continually adapted to meet customer needs; introducing free redelivery, delivery to a neighbour, the option to leave parcels in a Safeplace and inflight redirections through the Royal Mail App.
