I welcome the Home Secretary's statement on the Government's approach to hotel quarantine, but the criteria for those countries on the quarantine list should be published so that proper scrutiny can take place.
I welcome the Climate Assembly's report on meeting the Govt’s target of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The transport sector still contributes 33% of all CO2 emissions in the UK, so I focussed on electric vehicles, decarbonising the rail network, and privatisation of public transport.
I was pleased that the Spending Review shows the Government is committed to investing in transport. These projects, especially in the most deprived parts of the country, will play an important role in levelling-up these areas and help in our recovery as a whole.
During Transport Oral Questions the Secretary of State, Grant Shapps, assured me that the Government will take forward the recommendation of the Williams Rail Review to set up an independent body and that we will not return to the days of the old British Rail.
