After the euphoria of election night, I am now fully focused on starting my new role as the MP for Bexhill and Battle Constituency. On the Monday after Election Day, the new MPs started our induction programme in Parliament. There is a huge amount for me to learn and some of the skills will take time. I am, however, doing my utmost to be ready to serve from the start and my team are already in place to help me do so.
During my five year term, I will focus on making the case for high-speed rail from Bexhill to London and helping to bring new jobs to the area. The new link road in Bexhill gives us a great opportunity to deliver economic regeneration throughout the constituency from business relocations, new jobs and more housing. I want to help sell this site to employers looking to relocate to, or expand in, our area. I also want to work with our schools, hospitals and other essential public service providers to give my support and help them drive up standards.
Parliament sits from Monday to the end of Thursday. The days are long but I intend to commute from my home in Five Ashes to Westminster in order to maximise my time in the constituency. I would like to encourage constituents to visit Parliament, meet me and perhaps take a tour. For those who prefer to remain in East Sussex, I want to ensure that my surgeries, where I am on hand to address constituents' issues, are spread out across the entire constituency to make it easier for local people to attend. I also hope to visit a school every week as well as plenty of businesses and community organisations. Whilst I will always be on hand to help every constituent to the best of my endeavours, I particularly want to support those who find themselves in a vulnerable and disadvantaged position. There will, unfortunately, be times when I cannot provide an ultimate solution but I will do everything I can to help my constituents and prove a worthy champion of this beautiful constituency and its fantastic residents.
