Last Friday, Bexhill MP, Huw Merriman, visited King Offa Primary Academy in Bexhill following an invitation from Year 1 pupil, Theo.
Theo had contacted the MP following some science work his class had done about the environment. He had put posters up around the school encouraging reducing, reusing and recycling rubbish. He thought it would be important to let the MP know the huge efforts that he and his school were putting in to take care of the school and community.
Huw arranged to visit the school to see what the pupils were doing to help care for their environment. During his visit, the MP took part in a whole school assembly where pupils were able to ask questions about his role and share their knowledge about the environment.
Huw was then given a tour of the school grounds by Theo and members of the school Eco Group. He was especially impressed by the learning environment and enthusiasm of our learners.
Huw’s visit ended with a visit to Mrs Harman’s Year 1 class where pupils were designing posters for the school to encourage looking after the environment.
After the visit, Mrs Harman said “We were thrilled when we had our local MP visit us. The pupils really enjoyed their assembly with Huw and impressed him with their knowledge about the importance of caring for our local environment.”
Huw added “I’m always pleased to be contacted by my younger constituents about matters which are important to them. It was a delight to meet Theo and the pupils of King Offa to talk about the problem of littering and caring for the environment. The pupils were incredibly well-informed, and it was a real pleasure to discuss environmental issues with them.”
