Battle MP, Huw Merriman, today met the new Battle Town Council to learn more about their priorities for the town.
Town councillors discussed a number of issues that are important to local residents, including housing development public transport links, roads and pavements, and a thriving high street. Huw praised the Town Council on its many achievements for the town over recent years, including the reaction ground, and after the meeting said:
“It was good to sit down with the new Town Council and hear their priorities for the community for the coming years. They are such a hard-working council who I really enjoy work with. They deliver for the town and local residents. Being a town councillor is incredibly rewarding and can be a great way to really make a difference if you have new ideas, energy, and enthusiasm for your local community.”
Chair of the Battle Town Council, Cllr Vikki Cook, added:
“The Town Council values the opportunity to share with Huw issues that affect the residents of Battle and Netherfield and his willingness to take our concerns forward; in particular our desire to improve public transport between our local villages with the Town and then on to the Railway Station. In return, Huw was able to suggest ways of encouraging people to come forward as Councillors.”
Battle Town Council currently has four councillor vacancies: one in Telham ward, and three in Watch Oak ward. Anybody who is interested in becoming a Town Councillor should contact the Town Clerk, Carol Harris, at The Almonry.
