East Sussex MPs

Local East Sussex MPs have today welcomed the Prime Minister’s announcement of a new hospital for Eastbourne in addition to new medical wards and major refurbishment at the Conquest at Hastings and a new clinical building at Bexhill.

The MPs, Caroline Ansell (Eastbourne), Sally-Ann Hart (Hastings and Rye), Maria Caulfield (Lewes), Nus Ghani (Wealden) and Huw Merriman (Bexhill and Battle) had held a series of meetings with the Prime Minister and Health Secretary to press their case for major NHS investment in East Sussex and a share in the Government’s investment programme to upgrade 40 hospitals across England.

Writing to the Prime Minister they summarised their bid by saying

“During this year, we have been working with our local trust to develop plans. We very much hope that you will support our bid to elevate our hospitals in Hastings, Eastbourne and Bexhill to a standard which mirrors the first class service given by our NHS workforce.”

Speaking after receiving the news of the new hospital in Eastbourne and the major rebuilds in Hastings and Bexhill, the MPs said

“We are absolutely delighted that a significant section of the Conservative Party’s national manifesto commitment, to invest in the NHS, deliver 40 new hospitals and to level up parts of the country which need more, is to be delivered here in East Sussex. This is an enormous financial investment for our local NHS and will give us the first class hospital buildings and equipment to mirror the treatment which the clinicians and staff deliver.

We’d like to thank the Prime Minister, our Health Secretary, Matt Hancock and everyone at East Sussex Healthcare Trust  who have worked so hard to deliver this bid. The hospital designs are inspiring and we look forward to seeing this project move from vision to reality."

Health and Social Care

Ensuring that constituents receive the best Health and Adult Social Care for their needs, has been a huge priority for me since my election in 2015. With a proportion of elderly constituents way above the national average, I speak regularly in Parliament as to the needs of the constituency.

Thursday, 23 May, 2024
After 9 years as the Member of Parliament for Bexhill and Battle, I have made the decision not to stand as a candidate at the next election. This means I will also leave my job as Rail Minister on 4 July. I have loved being an MP and I leave with a heavy heart.
