Bexhill MP, Huw Merriman, launched the upcoming 2020 Bexhill Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair to a packed audience of students at Bexhill College last Friday.
Huw was joined on the Izzard Theatre stage by two of the organisers of the community-led initiative - Stewart Drew, CEO of the De La Warr Pavilion and Catherine Orbach of Culture Shift - together with Bexhill College Business student, Chloe Wilkinson. Huw gave an insight into his own career journey while Stewart and Catherine offered advice and guidance to on how to prepare for and make the most of the event on Friday 6 March. 17 year old Chloe gave an inspirational speech encouraging her fellow students to take control of their futures and seize the opportunities that would be available on the day by speaking to local businesses, training providers and advisers.
Now in its 5th year, Bexhill Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair, sponsored by Hastings Direct and Bexhill College, has a reputation for being one of the best employment and skills fairs on the south coast with more than 50 exhibitors offering live jobs, apprenticeships, career change opportunities, back to work support, courses and more.
Andy Prichard, Associate Principal of Bexhill College who welcomed everyone to the College event said “Bexhill College was once again delighted to host the launch event for the Bexhill Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair, with guest speakers setting the scene for the main event on 6th March. The College students were privileged to receive input from our local MP as well members of the local business community. One of our own students, Chloe Wilkinson, delivered an inspiring presentation to her peer group emphasising the importance of seizing all available opportunities available to them, with the Bexhill Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair being one such opportunity.”
Speaking afterward, Huw said “It was great to be at Bexhill College today to talk about the opportunities that the Jobs Fair provides. I’m really proud to be involved in this hugely successful event of which Bexhill College is a fantastic supporter and key partner. I look forward to seeing many of their students at the De La Warr Pavilion on 6 March and I hope they follow Chloe’s advice and make the most of the day.”
Bexhill Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair is on Friday 6 March from 10am to 3pm at the De La Warr Pavilion. Find out more and register in advance at dlwp.com/jobsfair or on arrival on the day.
