During the short break from Westminster, I have been leafleting villages inviting residents to join me to discuss local and national issues or to bring individual challenges which I can help with. So far, we have held these ‘Meet Your MP’ sessions in Etchingham, Sedlescombe, Ticehurst and Peasmarsh. The Supreme Court’s decision, leading to MPs returning to Westminster, has meant that the meetings in Herstmonceux and Hurst Green have been postponed for another day. In these confusing times, communicating what is going on in Parliament, taking onboard the views of residents and discussing ideas is absolutely vital. This used to be the way in which politics was conducted before social media made us less able to converse. The turnouts suggest that residents have lost none of their passion for the way in which their county and country is run. I look forward to running more of these events and wanted to thank all those who came along, as well as my office staff and volunteers who helped me leaflet in the morning prior to the meeting itself.
