Huw spoke about knife crime in the Youth Violence debate which took place in Parliament last week. He spoke of his time working in a youth centre in Brixton where he helped young people get out of gangs and violence. While acknowledging that "we can't arrest our way out of this situation," Huw called for tougher policing and better regulation of the sale of knives. He also touched on the way in which drill music can often glamorise violence and the need to tackle the propagation of such violent online content.

Statement from Huw Merriman MP

Thursday, 23 May, 2024
After 9 years as the Member of Parliament for Bexhill and Battle, I have made the decision not to stand as a candidate at the next election. This means I will also leave my job as Rail Minister on 4 July. I have loved being an MP and I leave with a heavy heart.
