Pevensey MP, Huw Merriman, and Wealden District Councillor, Lin Clark, praised the services of the volunteer drivers in Pevensey Bay who help local residents get to medical services. During a recent visit to Pevensey Bay they met two of the local volunteers, Valerie and Dennis, who help with the transport scheme.
The Pevensey Volunteer Drivers Scheme operates from the Pevensey Bay Information Centre based in the public carpark. The scheme uses volunteers with their own vehicles to provide transport for local residents who have difficulty in accessing medical related services. Volunteer drivers help whenever suits them and there is no fixed schedule that they have to fit in with. Fuel costs are paid to the volunteers based on mileage.
Huw said “The Pevensey Volunteer Drivers Scheme provides a great service to local residents who find it difficult to get to medical appointments. They are always looking to recruit additional drivers or people who can help out in the office. If you have some free time and would like to help out with this valuable volunteer service then do get in touch with them to find out more.
If would like to be a volunteer driver please do pop in for a chat with the team at the Pevensey Bay Information Centre or give them a call on 01323 766230.
