The Transport Select Committee, of which I am a member, is in the midst of an inquiry on Urban Congestion.
In our latest evidence session, the committee heard from a panel of industry experts on ways to reduce congestion by encouraging travel by bus. Having visited our local team at Brighton and Hove bus company, I described the difficulties which are faced by bus companies when out-of-town Park and Ride provision is lacking.

As a separate line of questioning, I asked the witnesses if they would advocate ensuring that a bus service threatened by closure would have to be continued for 6 months to allow competitors to consider taking over the route before it closed and passengers withdrew.
