Chamber

An Urgent Question was granted to discuss the cessation of the free BBC licence fee for over 75s, programming and job losses. As Chairman of the APPG on the BBC I had just had a meeting with MPs and BBC management to discuss the potential cuts to regional programmes. I therefore chose to focus on the potential cuts to regional political and current affairs coverage, news that I know constituents rely on. The BBC are cutting jobs across the regions in England. In total, 50 of the 3,000 staff will be lost.

Statement from Huw Merriman MP

Thursday, 23 May, 2024
After 9 years as the Member of Parliament for Bexhill and Battle, I have made the decision not to stand as a candidate at the next election. This means I will also leave my job as Rail Minister on 4 July. I have loved being an MP and I leave with a heavy heart.
