Watch: Huw's question on measures to protect pre-schools during Covid-19

I welcome the Government’s measures to protect businesses and individuals. However, I asked the Chancellor to do more to support our pre-schools/nurseries who pay business rates but are not eligible for the £10,000 one of grant.

I am pleased that the Chancellor said that he was happy to review. Watch below:

I welcome the package that the Chancellor has laid out and all the work that he has been doing. He said that he will look at other things over the coming days. May I please ask him to consider pre-schools and nurseries? They pay business rates, so will not receive the £10,000, but they are not within the category of hospitality, retail and leisure. Mine have been in to see me today and they are very worried. It would be awful for the very people that rely on them—the parents. Will my right hon. Friend consider that ask?

After 9 years as the Member of Parliament for Bexhill and Battle, I have made the decision not to stand as a candidate at the next election. This means I will also leave my job as Rail Minister on 4 July. I have loved being an MP and I leave with a heavy heart.
