Huw

I am passionate about education and have long been campaigning for fairer funding for schools in Bexhill and Battle, and so I welcomed the Chancellor of the Exchequer's announcement of a £7.1 billion increase in funding for schools over the next few years.

Following the announcement in the Spending Round Statement today I took the opportunity to thank the Chancellor for this increase, which will greatly help across East Sussex schools. I also thanked the teachers, headteachers and governors who have fought for fairer funding with me.

Watch the Chancellor’s response below:

Statement from Huw Merriman MP

Thursday, 23 May, 2024
After 9 years as the Member of Parliament for Bexhill and Battle, I have made the decision not to stand as a candidate at the next election. This means I will also leave my job as Rail Minister on 4 July. I have loved being an MP and I leave with a heavy heart.
