The Transport Select Committee, of which I am a member, have been investigating the vehicle emissions scandal which impacted Volkswagen cars.
This issue is likely to lead to a tightening of European Union regulations so that cars are not just tested for emissions in laboratories, where software can 'cheat' the test, but in real-world driving conditions.
The Committee were given a demonstration by Emissions Analytics' Portable Emissions Testing System (PEMS) which is the equipment that will be used in future to vehicles in real world conditions.
This equipment can be rigged up on any car in the space of one hour and can then be driven and tested simultaneously.
