Each year, since I became an MP, I get involved in the summer programme of local National Citizens Service programme where 16-17 year olds have the opportunity to grow skills, confidence, make new friends and get involved in community action,
One thing which stands out to me every year is the great teamwork of the talented young people and their passionate commitment to the community projects they develop together. This year was no exception. I had the opportunity to be involved in their Dragons Den activity as a judge/adviser where I felt very privileged to listen to them pitch their projects. They had all carried out a great deal of research about their causes, their plans for fund-raising activities, what they wanted to achieve and they had all carefully thought through the potential risks and difficulties. Each team had got to know each other and made sure they all played to their strengths and abilities. I wish them all the best of luck with their projects.
To anyone thinking of taking part in NCS next year, I would encourage you to do so. Not only will you meet some fantastic new people, you will have a lot of fun, discover new strengths you didn’t know you had, build your confidence and make lifelong friends.
