Local MP, Huw Merriman, visited the Bexhill Covid-19 vaccination centre at Sidley surgery on Turkey Road last Monday to see at first hand the great work being carried out to vaccinate local people against Covid-19.
The Sidley vaccination site which was set up and is being run by all the Bexhill GP surgeries in East Sussex was the first the MP’s constituency of Bexhill and Battle to begin vaccinating. Once the Pfizer vaccine was approved for use on 2 December last year, the local GPs worked closely with the Sussex NHS Commissioners to quickly establish a centre which had the space and facilities needed to offer vaccinations. Such has been their progress since the first vaccinations were delivered on 29 December, that they are ahead of many other areas in Sussex.
Huw said “I have had such incredible feedback from my constituents about their experience of their first vaccination visit to Sidley, that I wanted to arrange a safe visit to thank the GPs, staff and volunteers in person. I was incredibly impressed with the organisation at the site and really enjoyed talking to the staff and volunteers who look after everyone so well. Vaccination is a life-changing moment in many people’s lives. Some have been shielding for nearly a year so coming to the vaccination centre is a huge deal and may be their first trip out in a very long time. They are all given such wonderful compassion and care at Sidley.”
