Letter to Ofwat CEO regarding South East Water resilience plans

I have written to the CEO of Ofwat asking for an update on what Ofwat has asked of South East Water in relation to the company’s investment in making their network more resilient which justify the extra charges which have been applied to customers’ bills for this purpose.  You can read the full letter below.

Once I receive a response, I will be sure to share it as well.

Dear Mr Black,

I hope that you are well, I am writing to you regarding the resilience plans of South East Water.

News of the impending hosepipe ban, due to increased demand during the recent dry spell, has been immensely frustrating for my constituents who feel that the company are not doing enough to mend leaks and improve their networks.  I have received a number of letters from local residents in which they point to local burst water mains in their area which appear take some days to fix.

I should therefore be grateful for an update on what Ofwat has asked of South East Water in relation to the company’s investment in making their network more resilient which justify the extra charges which have been applied to customers’ bills for this purpose.

As you will recall from my previous correspondence, I have been concerned about the resilience of South East Water since Storm Eunice in 2022 which left thousands of residents without supplies for several days. I want to ensure that my constituents can rely on their water supplier whatever the circumstances.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

Huw

Thursday, 23 May, 2024
After 9 years as the Member of Parliament for Bexhill and Battle, I have made the decision not to stand as a candidate at the next election. This means I will also leave my job as Rail Minister on 4 July. I have loved being an MP and I leave with a heavy heart.
