Huw Merriman, MP for the Bexhill and Battle constituency, has welcomed today’s budget announcement that Rother District has been chosen as one of 20 new Levelling Up Partnership areas by the government.
The key aim of Levelling Up Partnerships is to identify key issues for the area with bespoke help from the Government.
The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities will work closely with Rother’s MPs, the local authority, and other key local partners to work out what the area needs and deliver it.
Huw Merriman said “I really welcome this news for Rother. Earlier this year, we succeeded in achieving over £19m of levelling up funding which will be transformational for Bexhill, Sidley and the wider Rother district. This additional government support through the Levelling Up Partnership will build on this investment and identify key issues for our area which are barriers to growth.
“For too long, areas like Rother, have been overlooked whilst neighbouring councils received significant investment. The Chancellor’s announcement today recognises that districts like Rother face significant economic and social challenges, including areas of high deprivation. This new Levelling Up Partnership will focus on and identify local challenges and, working in partnership with local stakeholders including business, will develop effective plans to address them. This will be transformational for local people by delivering opportunities and growth.”
