Huw Merriman, MP for Bexhill and Battle, welcomed the news that 72 new warranted officers will be starting work in across Sussex this August when he met with East Sussex Divisional Commander Nick May last Friday.
At their regular update meeting on local policing issues, the Divisional Commander confirmed that the first 72 of the 200 new officers joining the local police force will be fully operational from August. He also told Huw that the Sussex Police has recruited more detectives and set up dedicated teams to deal with crime prevention and missing persons.
Speaking after the meeting Huw said “My regular meetings with the Sussex Police senior team are a useful opportunity for me to raise local concerns and cases that constituents have brought to my attention. I know that local residents are worried about crime rates which have been creeping up both nationally and locally. I was very pleased to hear that the first 72 new warranted police officers will be on the streets of Sussex from this August. This will help reinforce the good work that Sussex Police do in helping to prevent and solve crimes and keep our communities safe.”
