Bexhill MP, Huw Merriman, recently welcomed 22 members of the Bexhill Seniors Citizens’ Club to Parliament.
The Club’s tour of Parliament followed Huw’s visit to their premises in Eversley Road in Bexhill earlier this year. He had visited them in the summer to find out more about the Club and to help with their fund-raising campaign to improve their facilities.
The Bexhill Senior Citizens’ Club, is a fully-inclusive club offering friendship and a wide range of activities from craft to dancing; snooker to gardening. It has been operating since 1961 and is open every weekday morning for anyone aged over 55.
Huw said “It was a pleasure to welcome members of the Bexhill Senior Citizens’ Club to Westminster. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to their club in Bexhill over the summer where so many different activities were taking place whilst I was there. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. I was delighted that they took up my invitation to visit me at the Houses of Parliament and take part in one of the free Democratic Access Tours which I was able to arrange.”
Christine Nee, Club Secretary, said “ What a great day - we learned so much from both the tour operators and from Huw. It was a real eye-opener to discover how much business is ongoing outside the chamber on a daily basis and to see how busy our MPs actually are! The history and traditions are remarkable, the tour is well worthwhile and we ended with a tasty snack in the cafe before heading home. Many thanks to Huw and his team arranging our visit and for their gracious welcome".
