Huw Merriman, MP for Bexhill and Battle, today became a ‘Road Safety Champion’, committing to improve the safety of UK roads in partnership with Brake, the road safety charity.
At an event held in parliament, Huw met with representatives from Brake to learn more about the road safety issues within Bexhill and Battle. Brake campaigns to prevent deaths and serious injuries on UK roads and delivers vital services to the families of road crashes victims across the UK.
Commenting, Huw said:
“Road safety is really important in a constituency like Bexhill and Battle where there are so many rural roads where most road accidents happen. I was keen to meet Brake in Parliament as I have recently put my support behind the campaign of Punnetts Town Primary School that does not have a safe crossing point outside their school which is located on the busy and accident prone B2096. I will be working with the school, local representatives and Brake to see what can be done to provide a safe crossing point.”
Joshua Harris, Director of Campaigns for Brake added:
“I am delighted that Huw Merriman has declared his commitment to making their community safer by becoming a Brake ‘Road Safety Champion’. Every death and serious injury on our roads is a preventable tragedy and by working with excellent local MP’s like Huw, we can make a real difference to road safety across the UK.”
